Child & Adolescent Firearm Safety

Did You Know?

According to data gathered by C.H.O.P. (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia), approximately 4.6 million children and teens live in a home with a loaded, unlocked gun. Research has shown that 3 out of 4 kids (ages 5-14) know where guns are kept in the home

In the United States, guns are the leading cause of death in children ages 1-17

80% of teens who attempt suicide with a gun, use a family gun.

Children and teens are naturally curious. This means it is imperative that parents who have guns in the home know proper safety practices.

In addition to these safety measures, parents should teach children the danger of firearms and show them what to do if they find a gun.

If a child finds a gun, they should...

1. NOT touch the gun
2. LEAVE the area
3. TELL a trusted adult
