Help us spread the holiday cheer to those in your community who may not receive gifts this year.
Through the MHALC’s Annual Gifts of Joy Project, we receive referrals for holiday gifts from mental health caseworkers. The children and adults who receive these gifts have two things in common: they have a mental health diagnosis and will not be receiving any other gifts this holiday season.
IN 2019 WE HAD NEARLY 600 RECIPIENTS, OVER 900 GIFTS AND 53 CASE MANAGERS WHO PARTICIPATED,
WE HELPED OVER 450 CHILDREN, ADULTS AND THEIR SIBLINGS IN 2017; IN 2018, WE HELPED OVER 500 CHILDREN AND ADULTS.
Requests for all sorts of gifts come across our desks, but it’s the simplest ones that stand out: the myriad of men and women requesting basic hygiene items like soap and deodorant; requests from children who look forward to new books or their own craft supplies; even one individual who requested a case of toilet paper because she has a hard time affording it.
WAYS YOU CAN HELP?
- By taking names of individuals and purchasing gifts for them at $25 per person.
- Organize a group or club to take names.
- By giving a generous donation to the project to help cover the cost of gifts that our staff goes out to purchase.
